CÉSAR MARTINELL: THE ARCHITECT OF WINE

Activity: Guided tour

Duration: 1 hour

Route: Carrer de la Cort, Church of Sant Joan, Church of Sant Antoni, Plaça del Pati, Plaça del Quarter, Passeig dels Capuchins, Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lledó.

Cèsar Martinell is a key figure in understanding Catalan architecture of the early 20th century. This illustrious citizen of Valls, a disciple of Gaudí, played an important role in the cooperative movement that emerged at the turn of the 20th century and was the architect of the new wineries that went down in history as the “cathedrals of wine”. The route allows us to discover the work straddling modernism and noucentisme that this architect left in the city of Valls.
